Today: Cheerful Mind

Be of good cheer.
Do not think of today's failures, but of the success that may come tomorrow.
You have set yourselves a difficult task, but you will succeed if you persevere; and you will find a joy in overcoming obstacles.

-- Helen Keller (1880-1968) American Writer

You have the power to choose.
Chose love, health and happiness.
You can choose to be friendly.
Choose to be cooperative, joyous, friendly, lovable, and the whole
world will respond.
Use your mind to bless, heal, and inspire all people everywhere.

This is the best way to develop a wonderful personality.

Saint Theresa 's Prayer

Saint Theresa's Prayer

May today there be peace within.

May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.

May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.

May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.

May you be confident knowing you are a child of God. Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love.

It is there for each and every one of us.

Irish Prayer

May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields.

May green be the grass you walk on,
May blue be the skies above you,
May pure be the joys that surround you,
May true be the hearts that love you.

And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.

Carrots, Eggs & Coffee

A carrot, an egg, and a cup of coffee...You will never look at a cup of coffee the same way again.

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up, She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose.

Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil; without saying a word.

In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl. Turning to her daughter, she asked, ' Tell me what you see.'

'Carrots, eggs, and coffee,' she replied.

Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard boiled egg.

Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The daughter then asked, 'What does it mean, mother?'

Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity: boiling water. Each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.

'Which are you?' she asked her daughter. 'When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?

Think of this: Which am I?
Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength?

Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?

Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you. When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest do you elevate yourself to another level?
How do you handle adversity? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human and enough hope to make you happy.

The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past; you can't go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.

When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling.

Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.

You might want to share this message to those people who mean something to you (I JUST DID); to those who have touched your life in one way or another; to those who make you smile when you really need it; to those who make you see the brighter side of things when you are really down; to those whose friendship you appreciate; to those who are so meaningful in your life.
May we all be COFFEE!!!

No-Sweat Composters

Q. What is compost?

A. Gardeners love to say compost happens, and it's true. When formerly living things (leaves, grass clippings, and so on) die or animal manures break down, they decompose into compost?a dark, moist, crumbly type of earthy-smelling organic matter.

Q. Why should I bother composting?

A. It's an easy way to reduce your contribution to the waste stream.
  • It slowly releases nutrients to plants when they need it.
  • Compost improves clay soil, making it easier to work; helps sandy soils hold more water; and increases plants' ability to withstand drought.
  • Compost feeds the soil microorganisms that release nutrients and help plants grow strong and healthy.
  • You can use it as a soil conditioner, mulch, potting mix ingredient, and fertilizer.

Love Peace Mercy Favor & Faith

    Affirmations & Prayers:

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life. Psalm 23.6

Your beauty and love chase after me every day of my life. Psalm 23.6

Believe God’s blessings are going to chase you down and overtake you.

Declare, Believe in, Receive and Act upon God’s all mighty favor everyday…

Take God as your life partner, nothing is going to be able to keep you down.

Stay in an attitude of faith and start declaring God’s favor.

One touch of God’s favor can turn everything around in your life.

Everywhere you go; things are going to change in your favor.

Have faith in God. God has the best life plan for you.

Love, opportunity, favor, peace & harmony are with me at all times.

    OUR HEAVENLY FATHER,
    WALK THROUGH MY HOUSE
    AND TAKE AWAY ALL MY WORRIES AND ILLNESSES;
AND PLEASE WATCH OVER AND HEAL MY FAMILY
    IN JESUS ' NAME. AMEN!

    "Peace Begins With Me"

I choose to live a peaceful way of life. Peace begins with me. If I want to live in a peaceful world, then it is up to me to make sure I am a peaceful person. No matter what others may say, do, or even believe, I can keep peace in my heart. I declare peace and harmony all around me. My thoughts of peace go to every part of the world -- past, present, and future. I connect with like-minded peaceful people, and together we march into the day knowing that all is well.

Give no one in all the world the power to deflect you from your goal, your aim in life, which is to express your hidden talents to the world, to serve humanity, and to reveal more and more of God’s wisdom, truth and beauty to all people in the world. I see the perfection in all of Life.

Love is the answer to getting along with others. Love is understanding, goodwill, and a respect for the divinity of the other.

A circle of love & peace is drawn around me. I sleep in peace, I wake in joy, and in him I live, move and have my being. I choose harmony and loving communication wherever I am. I am a shining example of Love & light. Opportunities, peace, love and favor are chasing me down. In name of Jesus, Amen.

    我要考上最好的學校

    生命中的黑暗提早降臨。在父親的葬禮上,她和哥哥們站在父親遺體旁邊,盯著他的

    遺體一直看,無法相信她心中的巨人、安全的靠山,居然就這樣倒下了。失去經濟

    依靠後,母親盡心盡力拉拔三個小孩長大。每天,張成秀的母親硬撐著日漸羸弱的

    身子,從清晨四點忙到晚上兩點,還要去河邊洗衣服。孩子吃新鮮的,她吃剩菜;

    孩子過年買新衣,她穿舊衣。唯一的希望,就是呵護孩子長大。

    面對父親驟逝,積極開朗的母親鼓勵她,不能放棄自己。當她聽著母親哼唱「讀書

    郎」,「只怕老師罵我懶呀,沒有學問,無臉見爹娘!」那時就讀國中的張成秀,腦海

    裡就清楚浮現要追求的目標:考上她聽過最好的學校。她寫了「北一女」、

    「台大外文系」兩張字條貼在案頭,提醒自己,不敢或忘。念書念累了,就打嘴巴、

    捏大腿,晚上不睡覺,累了只在桌上小趴一下,夜以繼日、日以繼夜的讀書。

    就在考上北一女那年的暑假,她為了籌措學費,去當生產線的裝配女工。那正是灰

    色存在主義盛行的年代,她每天抱著《少年維特的煩惱》、《野鴿子的黃昏》、卡夫卡

    的《蛻變》去上班,一有休息時間就看,一上工就拿起銲槍燒化錫,將電視內的一些元件

    焊起來。刺鼻的味道,讓張成秀再次發誓——絕對要好好念書,再也不要當女工。 後來,張成秀

    果然考上第一志願台大外文系,研究所也申請到史丹福大學MBA。她的大哥

    張成華寫道,要是依照社會約定俗成的看法,張成秀本來會陷入結構性貧窮:去念商職

    的夜補校,幸運的話,嫁一個保險公司的經理,下班後夫妻倆一起去賣健康食品;

    不幸的話,就該嫁個酒鬼老公,作電焊女工,生一堆孩子,然後沒事去公立醫院拿

    驗傷單。 從女工到擔任Google台港業務總經理,張成秀要撞破多少塊牢不可破、

    有形無形的社會階層天花板?

    叩門的,就給你們開門

    為什麼她屢屢能戰勝心中的敵人、克服外在的環境?張成秀自言,她是一個認真

    的尋道者。因為,聖經應許過:「尋找,就尋見。叩門的,就給你們開門。」

    勇敢的尋找,她勇敢的叩門。你呢? (本文由王曉玟摘錄及改寫自《從女工到

    不只轉折,更要轉化!張成秀的人生驚嘆號
    【文‧陳歆怡】

    從陽光下踏入咖啡館的張成秀,一身便服與神清氣爽的容顏一如往常,只是開口的自我介紹改為:「你好,我是張成秀。抱歉,我現在還沒有(印)名片。」

    一年前,她的頭銜是Google台港業務總經理,兩年來領導著一組優秀的團隊,將Google的關鍵字廣告市場從無到有建立起來,也使得當年前3季的業績比前期成長了59%。然而,就在事業起飛的階段,在眾目睽睽面前,她的人生突然大轉彎……

    職場上始終「無往不利」的張成秀,資歷排開來就像一串珍珠:天下雜誌廣告業務主管、台灣微軟負責人、美國 Handspring 公司國際產品行銷部負責人、台灣大哥大總經理特助及資深處長,最後來到網路產業超級巨星家族:Google。

    Google全球副總裁李開復稱讚她有「極強的敬業精神,超群的商務拓展能力和出色的領導力」,「從面試第一眼,就被她的自信與天分深深打動。」

    曾與她共事過的思科市場部資深協理程文燕,則對媒體形容:「不管遇到什麼問題,從沒看她透支過,每天總是笑臉迎人。」

    除了作風平易近人,她的裝束也很「務實」,身為高階主管又具進步思維,她每天背著超過5公斤重的背包出門,裡面裝滿簡報資料、電腦及2瓶礦泉水。

    張成秀自承:「我很喜歡Google這個充滿研發能量的團隊,也相信它所推動的開放式網路平台,會是帶動台灣產業升級的新契機。」然而,沒有在生涯的頂峰停留多久,一場突然降臨的「意外」,卻迫使她離開原本的快線道人生,進而根本地轉化了生涯計畫。

    Time to say good-bye

    那是去年8月的某一天,張成秀以「逆境求生術:網路行銷雙效戰略」為題,在一個近500人的場子上演講。當她站在講台上口沫橫飛,突然感覺自己的臀部有一股暖流泊泊流出,接著逐漸浸濕了黑色外褲,還沿著大腿內側、膝蓋窩、小腿腹流下。

    「痔瘡已經十餘年,平時也會不舒服,然而我都壓抑下來沒去治療。」回憶起當時,她率直說「很丟臉,也擔心會不會像恐怖片場景,血水一路漫開在講台地板上?」

    她當時鎮靜地撐完全場,接著還聽取了半小時的客戶證言,然而,一回到辦公室卻忍不住哭了,跟同事匆匆交代完,才趕往醫院檢查,結果是痔瘡最嚴重的第四期導致的血崩。

    開刀及復原的過程,她飽嚐身體的反挫,「原來小傷口也可以痛到齜牙咧嘴,」血糖不足及貧血的症狀則持續困擾,直到6個月後才恢復元氣。

    「躺在病床上,心裡是很掙扎的,捨不得在Google一起打拚的團隊,因此只先辦理留職停薪。然而,看到另一個同事不久前動過同樣手術,卻在半年內又動了第二次,我才終於下了決定──it's time to say good-bye。」先生及家人也都非常支持她。

    「卸除」超強成就動機

    過去,張成秀「拚命三娘」的行事作風在業界是出了名,她曾在2年前出版的自傳《從女工到Google台港業務總經理》中,描述自己從小得了「成就強迫行為症」,典型的症狀是:「考試要考全校前3名」、「一做起事來,就朝思暮想,不可終日,連刷牙都會想」、「一天平均要開6次會」、「上廁所的路上習慣同時做6件事」等等。

    為什麼要這麼拚命?這跟張成秀原生家庭遭逢的變故有關──1970年代兩次石油危機,讓她從事玩具外銷的父親一夕破產,甚至鋃鐺入獄,出獄後3年抑鬱終日,最後跳樓自殺──那年張成秀11歲。為了照顧3個子女,母親做過家庭代工、洗碗工、清潔工、保母,她也因此立志:有朝一日要讓母親過好日子。

    「我妹妹沒有被貧窮帶來的羞恥感擊倒,甚至反過來把『窮人沒權利做夢』的龐大社會壓力嚴拒、頂住,再遠遠地往後扔,這是她最值得喝采的地方,」張成秀的大哥張成華如此評論。張成秀則自承,身上同時遺傳到父親的創業家精神,以及母親堅強樂觀的個性,也因為生於困頓,使她很早就接觸基督教信仰。

    只不過,人生路上一直用盡力氣長跑,邁入45歲的她承認:「的確是太over了,直到這場病痛,我才真的了解所謂『過猶不及』、『中庸之道』的智慧。」

    更深層的體悟則是來自信仰。「要放下物質或社會地位給我的安全感,的確不容易,然而,我在病床上一再讀〈出埃及記〉,了解到自己的處境需要轉化:從被人伺候的『貴族』,變成服侍他人的使徒;從物質上的一無所缺,到心靈上的一無匱乏。」

    這段期間曾有幾家企業前來詢問她的意願,她都予以婉拒了。今年5月,張成秀與兩位同為史丹佛大學MBA出身的老友──普訊創投公司總經理王秀鈞及旺能光電資深副總經理張原偵──共同創辦了「中華綠色經濟發展協會」,協會以「培養綠領專業」及「帶動綠色創業」為宗旨,目前還在籌備階段。

    「誠實地說,我選擇投入非營利組織,是希望同時給自己及社會帶來『轉化』的機會,因為我在企業界20年,看盡了資本主義因為不斷追求利潤最大化所帶來的負面後果;即便目前方向及策略都還在摸索,我卻感到充滿盼望。」近期張成秀也陸續拜訪了數家企業的執行長,獲得的迴響更鼓舞她繼續耕耘下去。

    「我終於懂了父親」
    其實,張成秀能正面迎接巨變,並且對於告別昔日生涯展現無比豁達,也跟6年前母親發生重大車禍成為植物人、從而有機會「重新面對父親」有關。

    「長久以來,我都不能諒解父親當年拋下我們,讓母親獨自承受那麼多磨難,我一直把他的逃離視為懦夫的行為。」直到母親車禍,在醫院陪伴的期間,張成秀有機會與大哥深聊,才知道「原來爸爸要自殺的那天早上,還陪著大哥一起到公車站,希望在人生的最後旅程與大兒子共乘一段,其實他對家人是如此不捨。」

    幾十年的傷口兜入這塊關鍵拼圖後重新癒合,張成秀也才終於「懂了父親」:「當年父親會選擇走上這條路,有很大部分的原因是他知道自己不可能東山再起,且有肝病在身。而即使他最後選擇結束生命,還是想盡辦法為我們留好後路:他刻意選在美國總統福特出訪大陸的時刻走,並且留下抗議美國背叛台灣的『死諫』遺書,好讓妻小可以申請政府撫卹金……」

    提起這段往事總是讓張成秀哽咽,也因此往後遭遇再大風雨,她都能樂觀以對,「父親寧可選擇犧牲自己,也沒有拋下我,我又怎麼有權利對生命悲觀呢?」

    反璞歸真後的張成秀,已經用前半輩子把淚水化為珍珠;如今她站在人生下半場的開端,更將自己完全交託出去,順服靈性的指引,不變的是她永遠保持的謙遜與開朗,以及相信世界可以更好的盼望。
