Dr. Dyer Recommends
In his PBS special and the Excuses Begone! book, Dr. Dyer also discusses the research of two of his colleagues, Dr. Bruce Lipton and Richard Brodie, to help us challenge our excuses and embrace new beliefs.
The Biology of Belief
Bruce H. Lipton, Ph.D.

This book is a groundbreaking work in the field of new biology, and it will forever change how you think about thinking. Through the research of Dr. Lipton and other leading-edge scientists, stunning new discoveries have been made about the interaction between your mind and body and the processes by which cells receive information. It shows that genes and DNA do not control our biology, that instead DNA is controlled by signals from outside the cell, including the energetic messages emanating from our thoughts. Using simple language, illustrations, humor, and everyday examples, he demonstrates how the new science of Epigenetics is revolutionizing our understanding of the link between mind and matter and the profound effects it has on our personal lives and the collective life of our species.
"I encourage you to immerse yourself in The Biology of Belief. You’ll be inspired to reset your mind to the possibility that your beliefs carry far more weight than you realized in determining what you can do, what you’ll undertake, and how far you’re capable of going."
—Dr. Wayne Dyer

In addition to our genetic makeup, the other big excuse that most of us use to justify unhappiness, poor health, and lack of success is the family and cultural conditioning we’ve been programmed with. To that end, there’s a fascinating area of inquiry known as memetics, which deals with the mind and is analogous to the relationship of genetics to the body.
Virus of the Mind
Richard Brodie

Virus of the Mind is the first popular book devoted to the science of memetics, a controversial new field that transcends psychology, biology, anthropology, and cognitive science. Memetics is the science of memes, the invisible but very real DNA of human society. According to Brodie, it’s "a thought, belief, or attitude in your mind that can spread to and from other people’s minds." In Virus of the Mind, Richard Brodie carefully builds on the work of scientists Richard Dawkins, Douglas Hofstadter, Daniel Dennett, and others who have become fascinated with memes and their potential impact on our lives.
"Your beliefs have made these memes seem like second nature to you. While excuses are just thoughts or beliefs, you are the decider of what you ultimately store away as your guide to life."

Audrey Hepburn Quotes ~

"For Attractive lips, speak words of kindness,
For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people,
For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry,
For Beautiful hair, let a child run their fingers through it once a day,
For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone. People, more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed.
Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of each of your arms. As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself and the other for helping others."

The Truth About Inspiration: DarynKagan.com

The Truth About Inspiration: My Change Nation Interview with Daryn Kagan

The Truth About Inspiration: My Change Nation Interview with Daryn Kagan

If you've been laid off recently, remember that inspiration can come from the strangest places, and that it doesn't always come all at once. That's the advice of former CNN reporter, Daryn Kagan, creator of the positive news site, DarynKagan.com. When her 12-year career at CNN ended in a layoff, Kagan was forced to find a new direction in life.

Her inspiration came when she least expected it. "I got the idea to start an inspirational news web site by looking at a web site based on war," she remembers. While browsing a site that visited every bad place in the world, she wondered, why not go to every inspiring place in the world?

Kagan reminds us, too, that inspiration comes in pieces. "We expect it come in a nice little package," she says, but "it’s really kind of like an inspirational treasure hunt. As each little piece shows up, give gratitude, tuck it in your bag and know that the picture is emerging."

For those who aren't sure what their inspiration is, Kagan suggests buying a six-pack of small, spiral notebooks to keep in the car, by the bed, and so on, for jotting down any image or idea that comes to you. "That's how your big picture is going to come together," she says.

Love & Joy

Life is the first gift, love is the second, and understanding the third.
~Marge Piercy

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind
word, a listening ear, an honest accomplishment, or the smallest act
of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.
~Leo Buscaglia

I am special and wonderful. The more I love myself, the less stress I have. I am willing to learn to love myself. I am worth loving. There is love all around me. I radiate health, happiness, prosperity, and peace of mind.
~Louise L. Hay

(Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.)

Love
Quotes
Dr.Leo Buscaglia

Love always creates, it never destroys. In this lie's man's only promise.

Love is always bestowed as a gift - freely, willingly and without expectation. We don't love to be loved; we love to love.

Love is always open arms. If you close your arms about love you will find that you are left holding only yourself.

Love is life. And if you miss love, you miss life.

Love: The Ultimate Affirmation ~Dr. Leo Buscaglia

"Life is our greatest possession and love its greatest affirmation."

Love
1972, SLACK Incorporated, Hardcover, 150

Dr. Leo F. Buscaglia (1924 -1998) http://www.buscaglia.com/about.htm

Buscaglia was teaching in the Department of Special Education at the University of Southern California in the late 1960s when one of his students committed suicide. She had been one of the sets of "kind eyeballs" he always looked for in the large auditorium, because her responses showed him that at least one student was hearing what he said, so the news that she killed herself had a great impact on him. ["What are we doing stuffing facts into people and forgetting that they are human beings?"] This incident led him to form a non-credit class titled Love 1A. There were no grades. (How could you potentially fail someone in this class? That wouldn't be very loving!) The class led to lectures and a manuscript loosely based on what was shared in those weekly classes. The book found a publisher - and an author surprised to find that the simple title LOVE had never previously been claimed, allowing him to say "I have the copyright on LOVE!" Buscaglia said he never taught this class, only facilitated it, adding that he learned as much as anyone. Someone from a Public Broadcasting System affiliate heard one of his talks and arranged to tape a later presentation, eventually showing it during a pledge drive. The response was so strong that it was presented to the national office for consideration. There was great resistance, because a professor simply standing at a podium lecturing was considered old-fashioned, something from the old days of "educational television." Still, the message and delivery were so compelling that they gave it a try, and Leo Buscaglia's warm presentations touched viewers' hearts through the cool medium of television nearly as effectively as they did in person. He has been called the "granddaddy of motivational speakers" on television. His simple message delivered in a dynamic style made him a popular guest on television talk shows, as well as on the lecture circuit. At one time five of his books were on The New York Times Best Sellers List simultaneously.
